With fellow undergrad and graduate Apparel Design students, I conducted community based participatory research with Muslim mothers and daughters in the East African community. We co-designed an activewear outfit that was respectful to their culture and religion. The women and girls are put in danger when working out in long skirts and hijabs, and there are few other options available to them. We brainstormed, designed, patterned, and created many options of hijabs, tunics, and pants based on the mothers and daughters ideas, designs, and input.
